So many times when we are cleaning and servicing a customer’s swimming pool they will ask us how to clean outdoor swimming pool furniture. Because there are different types of furniture, there are different ways to clean it. The swimming pool service contractors from Express Pool Care offer this information, advice and tips on cleaning your outdoor swimming pool furniture. The reason you will want to clean your pool furniture throughout the swim season is that because it’s exposed to chlorine and weather for many months of the year — especially in Arizona — you need to clean it to keep it in good condition.
Cleaning poolside furniture cushions: Mix up a tablespoon of dish washing detergent, a quart of warm water and a tablespoon of borax. Wear gloves to protect your hands and dip a sponge into the water and then wash the cushions. You can either spray the liquid onto the cushions or you can sponge it on. Once you’ve got the solution on, let it sit for 15 minutes then hose it off. Let
the cushions dry completely in the sun. If you have fabric protector, spray that on right before the cushions are completely dry.
Canvas seats are easy to clean if the canvas is removable. If it’s not you will want to use the same cushion cleaning solution from above, spray it in, hose it off and then let it dry completely.
White plastic furniture can be cleaned with a mixture of a gallon of warm water and three tablespoons of automatic dish washing detergent (this will have an agent that will help whiten the plastic — and you don’t want to use this on your cushions or it could lead to “bleach” stains. Apply the liquid with a sponge or a soft brush, scrub away any dirt or stains. Let the liquid stay on the furniture for 15 minutes. Hose off. Allow to dry completely. To clean colored plastic or resin furniture, use an all purpose cleaner with water. Rinse well. Baking soda can be mixed with water and used to clean your plastic furniture.
Use vinegar and water to clean off any mold or mildew you may find on the furniture. Some people use bleach, but that should be used as a last resort as vinegar will likely do the job. A vinegar and water mixture can also remove mildew from your wooden furniture and pool deck.
For the most part, you may be able to spray your furniture off on a weekly basis, but at least monthly you will want to do a deep clean, just to get the chlorine and dirt and debris out of your cushions and off of your furniture and deck.
